5 Things Every Electrician Wants You To Know

It’s time to take a few minutes to think about things from the other perspective — that is, the side of the electrician. There are some common things that we at Repairman hear from electricians on a regular basis. Some of them are safety-related, while others are just overlooked pieces of information that would be helpful for homeowners to know.

We thought it would be a good idea to share some of these things with you. Without further ado, here are five things every electrician would like you to know as a homeowner.

1.) Don’t go it alone. When you are working with electric in any capacity, safety needs to be a top concern. If you are unsure of what you are doing, don’t hesitate to bring in a certified electrician to make sure the job is done safely and properly.

2). Properly labeled circuit breakers make all the difference. Doing this makes life easier for everyone in the home during electrical work. Take the time to make sure your circuit labels are correct.

3.) A licensed electrician is your best option. Licensed electricians are trained professionals that are insured in the rare cases where something goes wrong. If you decide to use someone who is unlicensed and uninsured, you are risking things financially if something does go wrong (your home insurance will not be willing to help).

4.) Electricians can help you with simple tasks, too. Don’t be afraid to reach out to an electrician for the simplest of tasks — like installing outdoor flood lights. Again, it’s always better to lean on the side of caution when it comes to working with electric.

5.) Be careful with space heaters this winter! These heaters often cause a lot issues — especially older models that do have the proper “breathing” space in your home. In other words, don’t put them near curtains, blankets, clothing or anything that can easily catch fire. Check out some more space heater safety tips here.
