Slow Moving Drain?

Slow Moving Drain
There is nothing like a shower or sink drain that can’t keep up with you! If you notice a drain that is moving slower than usual, don’t hesitate to take action on your own before calling a licensed plumber. The stopper should always be the first thing to check, because it’s easy for debris to catch on the stem underneath the stopper cap as it rinses down. For plugs you cannot see, a simple plunger can often work magic just like it does with toilet backups. When using a plunger on a sink, be sure to block the sink overflow hole with a rag, otherwise lack of a proper seal will give you poor results. At home drain cleaners are also often an easy remedy. You can even make a simple non-toxic and eco-friendly version on your own with just baking soda and vinegar. To try this method, follow the steps listed below.
- Be certain that the tub or sink bowl is almost empty of water
- Pour ½ to ¾ cup of baking soda down the drain
- Follow up with equal amounts of vinegar – watch the reaction take place!
- When bubbling stops, rinse with hot water
*If this method doesn’t do much to relieve the slow flow, the good news is that you have not filled the plugged drain with noxious chemicals. It’s perfectly safe and ready for a one of the licensed professional plumbers at Repairman to disassemble and fix for you.
Keep in mind that preventative measures are always the best course of action. A simple and cost effective screen should be easy to find at any hardware store and can go a long way to help catch hair and other large debris. In addition, pay attention to the use of scrubs containing large particles such as coffee and oatmeal as well as oil-based products like makeup that you may be washing down the drain. Day after day, these things build up, and you will eventually face a plumbing issue.
